Ruth Clarke

British author of just two pony books as far as I can ascertain. Both books are fairly traditional in theme, although one of them has a gypsy boy as a hero instead of the usual cliched pony book villain! Unusually for the time they were written, both also had male main characters.

Unfortunately I do not have any more information about this author, so if you know anything at all about her I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Horse & Pony Books:

Reprinted a number of times in hardback by Warne.
There was also a French edition published by Hachette.
EDITIONS PICTURED: 1st edition, French edition.
SUMMARY: Traditional pony story with a boy as the main character. When Ken manages to tame a beautiful wild Exmoor pony whom he calls Bonny, it is the start of many adventures for the two of them.

DON, DOBBIE AND DASH: A RUNAWAY GYSPSY TRIO
(WARNE & CO 1951)
ILLUSTRATED BY GRACE GOLDEN
SUMMARY: A young gypsy boy goes on the run with a pony and dog.

Collectors info:
Bonny is quite easy to find in the UK and USA, but it is much harder to get hold of with its jacket. The author's other book is a bit rarer and can be more pricey.
